Mankele has a certain magic about it, having started out as a mountain biking park and gaining popularity through mountain biking events which still warm the memories of the riders from beginners to professional champions, it has evolved into a family resort with 3 accommodation types, loads of activities, clean safe facilities with friendly staff, come see for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.
What's there to do for free?
To keep Mankele special, we must charge at least a day entry fee, from here there is lots to do without dipping into your hard earned cash: Swim in the sparkling pools or in the river, have a picnic or a braai at one of the many spots provided, fishing in one of the small dams, kids can enjoy the jungle jims and ride your bicycles as much as you want, all the facilities are included, although the shop, fresh food and coffee is not free, it is there for your convenience and not very expensive.
Can we bring our own food and drinks?
Absolutely, the braai facilities with grids that are are available to use, there are taps and washing stalls with a few appliances, electricity points and bins to leave your rubbish, pull in and come enjoy yourself.
What about Alcohol?
We are not licenced so if you don’t bring it you wont find it here. You are welcome to bring and drink your own alcohol but please remember this is a family friendly and a nature environment so please refrain from any language or behavior that could be offensive and don’t play loud music, at Mankele, nature rocks! The Mankele owners and management reserve the right of admission.
What do I do in an emergency?
First… don’t panic! We are 35 km out of town and set in the bush but we are geared up for emergencies within reason and willing to help. At reception near the main entrance are local emergency contact numbers and someone on duty 24/7.
We have 3 accommodation options, Log Cabins sleep up to 8 people, Permanent Safari Tents sleep up to 4 and Camping sites with electricity for tents and caravans. (please be considerate with power usage this helps to keep our rates reasonable and not to overload the supply which could leave everyone without power) Use of all facilities and mountain biking trails.
Mankele started out as a Mountain Biking Park but has evolved into a holiday resort without losing any of it’s mountain biking appeal but rather enhancing it with other activities to keep the whole family entertained.
We have added Geko river rafting, paintball and river rafting activities to Mankele and still have the mountain bike hire so you can enjoy the awesome trails should you not have a bike of your own.
Mankele is set in nature and there are many other activities to do such as fishing, walking, bird watching, swimming and X-Country running to name a few.
Although we are well known for several annual mountain biking race events such as the 3 Towers Stage Race, Sappi Challenge, Avalanche and a regular venue for the Spur school series, National and Provincial MTB Championship rounds, we also cater for kiddies parties, team building events, social camp outs and school group outings.
Clean and well maintained facilities are available for all Mankele visitors.
Toilets and hot showers (also natural outdoor bush showers), the log cabins and permanent tents have private ablutions. Washing station for dishes with electricity and some kitchen appliances for convenience. Braai facilities, picnic spots with shade, electricity points (normal 3 prong household plugs) running water taps fed by natural spring water and sparkling clear swimming pools.
